  8. THE KARA COLLECTION CD-ROM
  9.  
  10. It took 10 years of hard work to create the superb art which is contained
  11. on this CD-ROM. The Kara Collection includes all packages previously
  12. published by Kara Computer Graphics for the Amiga, plus many more, in an
  13. exclusive and professional edition reorganized and enhanced by Cloanto.
  14.  
  15. This CD-ROM contains 80 ColorFonts (including effects like brick, glass,
  16. chrome, chisel, etc.), 5 AnimFonts (handwriting, rotating characters,
  17. static wipes, sparkles, etc.), hundreds of alternate color palettes,
  18. Starfields (moving stars seen from different perspectives), Plaquegrounds
  19. (backgrounds such as granite, marble, sand-stone, wood, etc.), and
  20. software for special effects in pictures, animations, titling and
  21. presentations. All items for solo or combined use.

  23. The Kara Collection also includes two software packages developed by
  24. Cloanto to manage bitmapped fonts: ColorType for color fonts and the
  25. Personal Fonts Maker for black and white fonts. Both have been acclaimed
  26. as the best in their respective fields.

  28. To make AnimFonts really easy and enjoyable to use, we created an ARexx
  29. program for Personal Paint, which renders any string of characters into
  30. animated text. As Kara says, "So long to the laborious task of placing
  31. individual letters... This is the way AnimFonts were meant to be!!!"

  36. For this free release the contents of The Kara Collection CD-ROM has
  37. been split in seven archives, grouped by contents:

  40.    - The Kara Collection: ColorFonts
  41.    - The Kara Collection: AnimFonts
  42.    - The Kara Collection: Plaquegrounds
  43.    - The Kara Collection: StarFields
  44.    - The Kara Collection: Pictures

  47. The CD-ROM version includes additional 200+ MB of data which it would
  48. not have been practical to include in this online distribution. The
  49. missing parts consist of:
  50.  
  51.    - Plaquegrounds in 24-bit and 256-color IFF formats (the online
  52.      version includes 24-bit JPEG and 16-color IFF versions)
  53.  
  54.    - Duplicates of Plaquegrounds organized by style (in the online
  55.      version they are grouped by material only)
  56.  
  57.    - ColorFonts format conversions for Broadcast Titler by InnoVision
  58.      Technology, and PowerTitler and X-Titler by ClassX
  59.  
  60.    - Cloanto Personal Paint, ColorType and Personal Fonts Maker
  61.      software (all titles are available as separate, free downloads)

  63.    - Personal Paint tutorial and example animations. These are also
  64.      available separately.

  66. The "Surprise" archive includes a special item which has never been
  67. released before.

  70. INSTALLATION
  71.  
  72. The original CD-ROM included a complex installation program to install
  73. different combinations of components, and even upgrade Personal Paint if
  74. necessary. For this online distribution the different sets of data have
  75. been isolated into directories that can easily be copied with the mouse.
  76. The latest version of Personal Paint has in the meantime become freely
  77. available. The original documentation also included hyperlinks to
  78. executable programs on the CD, which in turn would launch some slideshows
  79. and tutorials stored on the CD. While some of these links will not work
  80. in this version (because for example the tutorial animations have been
  81. split from this distribution), the "KaraCD.guide" launcher simulates
  82. some of the Assign and other commands which were used on the CD-ROM
  83. version, and is able to create on the fly a configuration able to run
  84. most batch files linked to in the documentation.

  86. The only two packages that require extra care during installation are
  87. ColorFonts and AnimFonts, since they need to be automatically
  88. accessible from other programs.
  89.  
  90. ColorFonts can be installed in the system "FONTS:" path. If they are
  91. used only with Personal Paint, they can be installed inside
  92. "PPaint:fonts". The Font requester of Personal Paint includes a button
  93. which makes it easy to switch from the system fonts directory to the
  94. local one. The following is a sample Shell installation for Personal
  95. Paint:

  100. While AnimFonts can be used with a variety of programs, as is explained
  101. in detail in the documentation, Personal Paint includes a dedicated
  102. Rexx script (AnimText.pprx) which makes it very easy to create
  103. animated texts using AnimFonts. The script needs the .data files which
  104. are provided with each AnimFont. The following procedure can be used to
  105. install all AnimFonts for use in Personal Paint:
